Thad Jones & Mel Lewis Band video £7.50 Air Date: April 22, 1968 The Thad Jones-Mel Lewis orchestra was one of the main big bands of the late Sixties, a most unpromising time for larger jazz ensembles. Thad Jones (brother of pianist Hank and drummer Elvin, and much experienced with the Count Basie band) joined forces with drummer Mel Lewis (who achieved fame with the Stan Kenton orchestra in the mid-1950s). This Jazz Casual showcases the Jones-Lewis organisation in prime hard-swinging form. Thad Jones - trumpet & conductor
