Search for:
HINTS & TIPS

>> USE KEYWORDS SEPARATED BY "AND" :

keywords used : ARTISTS' NAMES / YEAR(S) OF RECORDING / LABEL / CD TITLE
eg Paul Chambers AND Miles Davis AND 1958 will find all recordings made in 1958 with both Chambers and Davis
eg Collier AND 197* will find all recordings made by Graham Collier in the 1970s

>> SEARCH BY ARTISTS' NAMES (eg Stan Tracey) or use several names divided by AND (eg Cootie Williams AND Ellington) - surnames ONLY can be used as well

>> SEARCH BY YEAR OF RECORDING OR LABEL - such as 1936 (or by decade by using an asterisk eg 193* ) or classics or riverside

>> SEARCH BY CD TITLE - but words of a CD title must be sequential. If sequential words (eg The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady) are not used, insert AND (eg black AND sinner), although black saint on its own would find this CD

- queries are case-insensitive, so miles is the same as Miles

- you can use AND, OR, NOT - but NOT must be preceded by AND
(eg evans AND NOT bill will find the word evans - incl gil evans - but not bill evans)

  • for multiple words (useful for song titles) use double-quotes ( "ain't misbehavin" ) - otherwise words are treated as alternatives
  • queries are case-insensitive, so miles is the same as Miles
  • you can use AND, OR, NOT - but NOT must be preceded by AND, eg "charlie parker AND cherokee" will find pages containing the words charlie parker and which also include the word cherokee;
    - use double-quotes to search on a phrase which includes AND, OR or NOT eg - "body AND soul"
