back to previous page These lifelines are potted biographies of some of the major jazz stars. An assessment is made of each artist's style or contribution to jazz history. Each lifeline links to lifelines of other artists - perhaps those with whom they were associated, played with, or were influenced by. We have also composed timelines, which cover movements or locations in jazz history. These also interlink with each other, and also with some of the major artists' lifelines. Together, these lifelines and timelines form a potted history of jazz, rudimentary and simplified perhaps, but they serve as background information, should you require it. [You will gather, no doubt, that I am no great fan of Chet Baker and that my patience wears thin after ten minutes of John Coltrane - both are heresies in the jazz world, I know - but otherwise there is nothing that is too contentious. There is little room for sophisticated argument in these timelines, but if you disagree with any comment or seek to correct a point of view or matter of fact, please contact us.]
