Proper Box, 2003

Young MulliganGerry Mulligan was one of the most versatile figures in modern jazz, making his initial impact as an arranger for, among others, Gene Krupa and Claude Thornhill and then mastering the baritone saxophone, becoming the greatest soloist on this unwieldy horn. Here we present 41 tracks over 2 CDs that amply show what an innovator Mulligan was. Amongst the supporting cast are Charlie Ventura, Miles Davis, Gene Krupa and Chet Baker in the legendary piano-less quartet.
